Tanzania Travels Faq

The below questions are Tanzania Travels faq as per experience of Nyayo Tours and Safaris in organizing and Planning Tanzania Trekking Adventures and Wildlife Adventure across Tanzania!

1:0 Can I get visa in Tanzania?

Yes you can issue a visa in Tanzania upon your arrival at the airport.

Visa charge is between $50/100. The whole process of issuing visa at the airport will take you up to 30 minutes.

  1. Can we leave excess luggage behind while on safari or Kilimanjaro?

Extra luggage will be stored at the hotel you stayed for free.

  1. I am a solo (single) traveller, how can I join your tour?

We will help you on joining other departing groups for both Kilimanjaro climb and safari.

  1. Do you accommodate people with dietary restrictions?

Yes, people with special meals are highly considered. We have enough experience on serving the groups of this category. Vegetarian, Gluten-Lactose free and others.

  1. How soon do I have to book your tour?

On safari package, we recommend you to book as early as possible after you have been interested, this is due to limited number of vehicles, lodges and tented camps during safari. On climbing, if you would like to join a group, we recommend you to confirm your booking as early as possible.

  1. What immunizations / shots are required?

Yellow fever immunity is highly recommended.

  1. What is there to do in Moshi? Is it safe to walk around on my own?

It’s safe to move around Moshi town during the day but this does not give you a reason to trust everybody who comes your way. Be so much carefully with the guys nicknamed ‘fly-catcher’ who comes your way with a reason to guide you.

During night, it’s strongly recommended not to work alone, contact the office or hotel to give you someone who will guide you. Robbery is witnessed in different areas at night.

  1. Can I get to Zanzibar after my safari/trek? Can you arrange that?

Yes, we will help to customize your personal package for Zanzibar holiday starting from 2 days to 7 days.

  1. What is the migration?

The great wildebeest migration in Serengeti

The great wildebeest migration is the best attractive migration ever seen in the world.

This migration takes a large number of wildebeests accompanied with number of gazelles (grant gazelles), zebras and impalas.

These herds of wildebeest migrating from Serengeti to Maasai Mara in Kenya then back to Serengeti. This migration occurs throughout the year where the animals moving in cycle for fresh grasses and water. While in migration there where many of them dying and other who will survives due to predators and exhaustion, (the strong one is the one will survive). This migration pulled by rainfall availability in this area which will lead to grown of new pastures. This is the natural world wonder spectacular to watch.

At the early of November the herds arriving southern Serengeti at Ndutu region, just after short rains begins. This beasts stay for almost three months, through January, February and March grazing and fresh water. Wildebeest are born in this period and at the end of March they are ready to ride the northern part of Serengeti.

April and may they slowly move toward South of Seronera and Moru Kopjes, accompanied with many animals like Zebras, grant gazelles and Thomson gazelles. Some herds scattered in Seronera region at Central Serengeti toward the west of Serengeti during June and July. This migration will move cross Grumeti River, This likely happened during this period. The migration herd to the north trough Grumeti and Ikongoro Reserve.

In early September the beasts moving across Mara River, is the best part to move to the Masai Mara in Kenya where you can spot wildebeest getting panic and confused where there are large number of crocodile. The spending in Masai Mara depending on rains, sometimes they can change directions back to Tanzania in October, crossing Mara River to the east nearly November.

  1. When is the best time to see the migration

 3:0   KILIMANJARO CLIMBING

  1. What is the weather like on Mt. Kilimanjaro?

-At the low land, during rainy season, temperature falls to 10 degree Celsius and at UHURU PEAK, temperature hits up to -20 degree Celsi2.         

  1. How difficult is it to climb Kilimanjaro?

-Not that much difficult but it’s somehow tough.

-Marangu, Lemosho and Rongai route offers easier route, less difficult.

-Machame is the most difficult route, hiking in rocky trail offers the real adventure.

It requires no technical climbing experience, and any moderately fit person can summit the mountain. However, for most people, it is the most difficult thing they have ever done.

  1. Which route should I take?

– 7 days Machame route

– 7/8 days Lemosho route

– 6 days Rongai route

– days Marangu route

– 5 days Marangu route

The first two mentioned route above is highly recommended for successfully summit.

  1. How big will my group be?

During hiking Kilimanjaro, the group size and number of days will determine the size of the crew. A single climber will have a maximum of 6-7 people as follows

-Guide

-Cook

-4/5 porters

The larger the group the lower the number of the crew, e.g. 3-clients will have a minimum 12- crew.

  • 2 guides
  • 1 cook
  • 9 porters.
  1. Are the guides trained in First aid and altitude sickness?

Yes, our guides have received a full course of first aid, and they are experienced to serve clients in any case of Acute Mountain Altitude sickness and the associated health shorts.

  1. Are the guides licensed / certified?

Yes, Kilimanjaro guides are trained and certified by the Kilimanjaro National Park.

  1. MOUNT KILIMANJARO ACCOMMODATION

-Huts/Mountain cabins with bed and mattress on Marangu routes (shared)

-The rest of the route is tents camping.

            7.1MOUNT MERU

-Shared mountain huts/cabins with bed and mattress

*remember to bring your own sleeping bags, but if you don’t have, they are available for rent.

  1. What about drinking water?

Purified mineral water is provided throughout.

  1. Can we bring something for the porters?

Feel free to bring anything as a gift for porters and guides; you can also give them some of your stuffs that you think you will no longer use especially after climbing.
